What is thoracic outlet syndrome?

Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is a term used to describe a group of complex and rare disorders.  The disease is not widely known by doctors and commonly undiagnosed. TOS involves the compression of nerves, arteries, or veins in the space between the lower neck and upper chest.  TOS is hard to define because it has a variety of causes and many different symptoms.  The main symptoms of TOS are pain in the arm, shoulders, and neck and numbness in the fingers, but depend on the type of TOS you have.
