Symptoms depend on the type of TOS a person has and the severity of their condition. Symptoms of TOS may become worse when raising the affected arm above shoulder height.
Disputed TOS has chronic pain similar to true neurogenic
TOS. This pain worsens with activity but
the exact source of pain cannot be found.
True neurogenic TOS compresses nerves and may create the following symptoms:
Pain in your shoulder, arm, neck
and chest
Numbness or tingling in your
fingers
Ache in your arm or hand
Weak grip
Decreased size of hand muscles - mainly
at the base of your thumb
Venous TOS:
Swelling of the hands, fingers,
and arms
Heaviness and weakness of neck,
arms, and hands
Pain of the hands and arms
Bluish color of hands and fingers
Blood clot formed under your
collarbone
Sweaty hands
Sweaty hands
Arterial TOS:
Lack of color in one or more
fingers or entire hand sometimes known as "white hand"
Reduced pulse or no pulse in
affected arm
Cold sensitivity in the fingers,
hand, and arm
Numbness and pain in fingers,
hand, and arm
Unusual sound heard by a doctor of
blood pushing past a barrier (Supraclavicular bruit)
